Ranellidae 法螺科：Small to large, thick, fusiform. Protoconch large and brown, distinctly separated from teleoconch. Spiral ribs strong, occasionally nodulous. Varices present. Periostracum usually thick. Inner wall of outer lip and columellar lip ornamented with folds or tubercles. Anterior canal rostrate. Operculum horny with nucleus situated laterally or downwards. Radula taenioglossate. Carnivorous.
