Shell exhibit  貝殼畫

Ludao (the Green Island, 20kms southeast off Taiwan Island) is a nature park which owns the most plentiful marine mini-shells. It is also an important site which have the various species mini-shells in the world. The Taiwan Malacological researh team of Malacology Laboratory, Biodiversity Research Center, Academia Sinica has discovered more than 1,400 species of mini-shells around the Ludao sea area. After published books, The Rissoacea and Triphoridae, we will continue bringing masses the latest illustrated handbooks about mini-shells from Lutao. Further, the artists use mini-shells to make “shell paintings” which contain vivid subjects like flowers, birds, landscape, and animals etc. While prosperous period, most shell paintings were exported to Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Europe, and America. These estates made a huge profit to Taiwan.
This exhibit was made in 1960s and named as “Wei-Zhen-Huan-Yu, in Chinese 威震寰宇”. It means the biological science and cultural science consciousness inside, which content the humans’ life. Right now, we are trying to think about the relationship between shells and human, the “shell-culture” could be a new interdisciplinary research focus in the near future.
